— WE ARE KANKHAJURA

It means centipede.

We know. Stay with us.

— CHAPTER ONE

The girls we made this for

She works Mondays and dances Saturdays. She has three jobs, two roommates, and a rotation of seventeen earrings that she wears in different combinations depending on the day.

She wants jewellery that keeps up — with her timelines, her plans, her aunties asking if it’s real gold. (Spoiler: it isn’t. She doesn’t care.)

She is the reason we started Kankhajura.

— CHAPTER TWO

The name, and why it stayed

Kankhajura means centipede. It’s a strange name for a jewellery brand — we know. People tell us.

But we liked it because centipedes have many legs, and the girls we love have many rings. We liked it because our nanis said you don’t kill one if you see it — something’s coming. We liked it because it crawls into your day without asking and, once it’s there, you don’t really notice it until you look down and think, oh, that’s still there. That’s nice.

That’s exactly what we wanted to make.

— CHAPTER THREE

How we make it

Small studios. People we know by name. Brass, enamel, and a lot of patience.

We don’t chase seasonal drops. We don’t do flash sales. We don’t make 47 versions of the same stud in colours we don’t believe in.

We make a piece when it’s ready, we price it honestly, and we send it in a tiny pouch you can throw in your bag. That’s the whole playbook.

— CHAPTER FOUR

What we promise

That the thing you buy is the thing we shipped. That if it’s not right, we’ll fix it. That we’ll reply to your email within a day.

That we’ll never sell your data, send you fourteen emails a week, or make you feel like a number.

That we’ll keep this small, keep it honest, and keep making things worth wearing.

Welcome to the crawl.

For girls who own too many earrings and not enough ears.
